Hands-on Olive Harvesting in Pamukkale
ITİNERARY
Destination 1 / Welcome to Turkey!
Cardak, airport pick-up, and transfer to Karahayit Village. Enjoy your afternoon and evening at your hotel.
Destination 2 / Harvesting day
After breakfast, we will pick you up and go to the place where we will harvest olives. You will meet the family and their traditions continue. You will learn to harvest olives by using traditional methods (stick method, hand-made baskets) until lunch. We will have a picnic among the interesting rock formations of the area including sucuk which is the Turkish garlic sausage, cheese, tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, and halva with tea. After a short break, we restart with picking and harvesting olives. The late afternoon is spent processing the olives picked the day before with the mother of the family, both çekişke (kırma) and dime olives. Processed olives can be taken home as gifts by our guests. Those who desire to relax after such a long day shall have the opportunity to enjoy the hammam in their hotel.
Destination 3 / Harvesting or Cooking Lesson
Option to either continue with the olive harvest until lunch or participate in a cooking lesson to learn to prepare traditional dishes like keşkek, popular, karnıyarık (aubergines with seasoned minced meat filling), and Turkish rice pudding. Picnic-style lunch. In the afternoon we will learn how to press olive oil out as we will visit an olive oil processing factory. The olive oil can be bought and taken home by the guests. At the end of the tour, we bring you back to your hotel where you can relax.
Destination 4 / Return
Return day and transfer to Cardak airport or possibility to extend your trip to visit local villages or historic sites.
